Description |
This Lion capital of Ashoka is a sculpture of four " Indian lions" standing back to back. It was originally placed atop the Asoka pillar at Sarnath, now in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The pillar, sometimes called the Asoka Column is still in its original location, but the Lion Capital is now in the Sarnath Museum. This Lion Capital of Ashoka from Sarnath has been adopted as the National Emblem of India and the wheel " Ashoka Chakra" that is located in the center of the statue, has been placed onto the centre of the Flag of India. |

Other information |
The uniqueness of this picture lies in the fact that it has been taken from the precise angle, minus the upturned bell-like lotus flower, which was adopted as the " National Emblem of India" which shows the Horse on the left and the Bull on the right of the Ashoka Chakra in the circular base on which the four Indian lions are standing back to back. On the far side there is an Elephant and a Lion instead. |
