Tower Bridge machinery

One of a pair of identical horizontal stationary steam engines built by Sir W. G. Armstrong Mitchell & Company of Gateshead in 1894. Used to pump water at 750psi to the hydraulic machinery that worked the bascules of Tower Bridge.

It is a twin tandem compound engine, fitted with Meyer expansion slide valves, driving force pumps by the tail rods.

This work has been released into the public domain by its author, Arpingstone. This applies worldwide.
