English: Flight Engineer Dmitriyevich Oleg Kononenko photographs commander Sergey Alexandrovich Volkov during expedition 17 to the ISS.
Kononenko is at the end of the manual Strela crane operated by the commander. The telescopic crane has a mass of around 45kg. An orange safety lifeline along the length of the boom fastens the crew to the ship. 4 larger parabolic dishes and several smaller ones are part of the Kurs docking system. 2 black and white diamond shaped docking targets, a green periscope and an open extra-vehicular activity hatch can be seen in the image. The commander stands on the Pirs airlock/docking module and has his back to the Soyuz spacecraft. Zarya is seen to the left and Zvezda across the bottom of the image. |
