File:Addition of integers using Grothendieck construction.svg

Summary

Description
English: A depiction of the sum (−2) + 1 = (−1) using the Grothendieck group construction of integers as equivalence classes of pairs of natural numbers. Representing −2 = <2, 4> and 1 = <3, 2>, we have
−2 + 1 = <2, 4> + <3, 2> = <5, 6> = −1.
