Description

On the Yom Kippur of October 6, 1973, Egypt and Syria launched a coordinated surprise attack on Israel. The Yom Kippur War was launched on the holiest day on the Jewish calendar: The Day of Atonement.

On October 24, 1973, Israel and Egypt signed a ceasefire agreement. A UN emergency force was established in the demilitarized zone as part of the separation of forces agreement that was signed on January 18, 1974.

Pictured above is a UN-arranged meeting between IDF Lt. Gen. Haim Bar-Lev and an Egyptian general.
